The Art Hive at Jewish Eldercare Residence / La Ruche d'Art du CHSLD Juif de Montréal
Jewish Eldercare is a long-term care facility located in the Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood of Montreal, that houses members of the Jewish community that are elderly and/or chronically ill and provides a homelike environment to its 320 residents, according to Jewish traditions and values.
Based on the Planetree http://planetree.org approach to care and Art Hives principles, the Art Hive at Jewish Eldercare is designed to promote community and creative expression. Residents need to feel that they are still part of a larger community, and get inspired by watching others create. Families, staff and companions seek creative ways to interact with each other, especially when words fail. Participants are encouraged to explore and develop their skills, to teach one another & engage in meaningful activity together. This group provides a safe, non-judgmental place for them to collectively explore their creative potential.
This Art Hive is a pilot project running between September 2016 and April 2017, and include several pop-up Art Hives on unit, special creative events for staff, and a weekly Art Hive open to all residents, familes, caretakers, staff and volunteers.
