The Making Space is a free community art studio geared towards adults and welcoming to children with their parents. The Making Space is for artist-makers of every skill-level and all backgrounds! Makers are welcome to tryout our demonstration by a local artist, bring your own project, use our art supplies, or experiment with your own ideas!

The Making Space values safety, creativity and connection. We desire that Makers have a positive experience of artmaking in a space that feels welcoming, non-judgemental, encouraging, and invites a sense of belonging to the community. We value the importantance of finding outlets for hands-on, sensory-based, and face-to-face human experiences in the midst of a technology-heavy society. We also believe that making art with others can help people feel more at home in a new place in the midst of a transient culture.

The Making Space events are semi-structured events in order for Makers to experience a sense of safety as well as to have the freedom to create. Each event is come-and-go and has multiple facilitators on site to welcome Makers, orient you to the space, and to share in the art-making experience with you. Frequently, The Making Space invites a local artist-maker to share their particular artistic style, process, or technique and is available to give a demonstration or answer questions as they make art alongside you.

Thanks to the generosity of grants, local buisnesses, and our Makers themselves, art materials are provided free of charge for each event. This routinely includes a variety of drawing and painting (acrylic and watercolor) supplies. We provide a variety of different materials for a demonstration or project unique to each event. In the past, these have included the following: bubble printing, altered books, collage, natural materials collage, paper making, fiber arts, watercolor, and more. In addition to using our supplies, Makers are invited to bring their own projet they are in the middle of working on and to create in the presence of a creative community.

We hope you come join us in enriching the Valley through creativity and connection! --The Making Space
