Team City Art Hive is run by members of Team Possibles Art Collective, in partnership with Halifax City Recreation programs and the Halifax Nova Scotia Down Syndrome Society. The hive is run out of the Chocolate Lake Recreation Centre on Tuesday afternoons from 12:00 - 3:00 pm: year round. ( except July & Aug). Team City Art Hive is a free public arts space that welcomes everyone of all abilities and serves as an exciting model of community cohesion, spirit, inclusion, openness, and creativity. Our success has been shared between building an exciting new community safe haven and empowering young adults with Down syndrome (DS) to be leaders and mentors. Team City Art Hive is part of a Canada-wide movement to invite all persons into safe art- making spaces for the purpose of improved mental health, increased social connection, increased confidence in oneself, and the creation of supportive community (for a sense of belonging, togetherness, shared goals). In addition, Team City Art Hive celebrates DS culture and the achievements of Team Possibles, artists with DS arts collective (established 2007). Team City Art Hive is inspired and lead by artists of Team Possibles inviting the public into its established arts studio at Chocoloate Lake Community Centre. Team City Art Hive achieved a welcoming, safe environment by fostering positive
relationships, inviting people into the space through our customer service representative (Will Brewer), maintaining a sense of freedom, creativity and openness, and providing healthy snacks to participants. The positive community that Team Possibles has built over its eight year history is mirrored in Team City Art Hive where everyone is respected, listened to, appreciated and supported.
