They called this a “huge upset” while also insisting all their fights are, like, 50/50 matchups. Zuffa does the same thing. Neither are telling the truth. Anyway, a good win for Ocampo (39-4, 27 KO), who was just the better, more obviously experienced fighter as this went along. He hung tough after some early damage and took Mindoro into the deeper waters and got him. Caught him with a great shot and got the TKO win. That seems a theme for today, I guess.
Mindoro drops to 17-1-1 (16 KO) and got some reality checks here. The 26-year-old Filipino isn’t going to KO everyone, he learned that, and live dogs can ruin your night, he learned that, too. Paulie Malignaggi — who is an actual analyst and not just a guy saying stuff, like most of the DAZN people or me — noted that he’d seen Mindoro in fights before, and the reason he didn’t think the stoppage was early is because Mindoro does not know how to hold and survive, and all he was going to do was get knocked down again or knocked clean out.
Pretty good fight, too! You can count on Ocampo to show up and try, and this time that got him a W. Back to the drawing board for Mindoro. I thought Mindoro’s corner did a good job here, they were giving him good advice, he just wasn’t using it.
